Only had the 821 a couple of weeks, been out a couple of times, decided to brave the bitter wind today as it was dry and pushed it out into the sunshine, turned over and it just coughed through the termis and nothing?! This happened about 15 times then the engine light stayed on! Turned the key on/off and that cleared, coughed again then fired? Obviously an impossible question to answer and maybe it's just a Ducati on a cold day thing but it's a 2015 bike done 3k so would hope no issues with it. Anyway had a 20 mile run, stopped couple of times no further probs. There was probably less than half a tank in and it hadn't been stood up from side standing for a few days but still seems strange. I'll ring the dealers first thing but wondering if it's a common thing with the monster or Ducati in general?....
Just a battery that's tired from the cold weather perhaps? I keep mine on an Optimate when in the garage. Hasn't failed me yet, and it probably goes out only once a fortnight at the moment just for a spin.
Perhaps? It was stood in the dealers for a couple of months and I've only done 60 miles in last couple weeks but it's an 8 month old bike? It lives in a heated garage and I've had many older bikes that are left for weeks without issue? It didn't stop turning over and fired eventually but I suppose it wasn't over lively? Temp has dropped a lot this week and maybe the 821 has a strong natural drain and needs a lot of oomph to fire? I'll see what Martin at Ducati Manchester says tomorrow? Thanks
Mines a 1200 not an 821, but it's the first Ducati I've owned. Even fully charged it seems to be a bit sluggish starting up. I suppose I always assumed it to be the a big bore V-Twin thing. My old R1 always fired up quick. Sorry I can't offer any better advice. I just learnt to keep the battery fully optimised. Be interested to hear other owners experiences.
Did a lot of searching last night and it seems weak batteries cause a lot of starting issues with Ducatis, I rang Manchester this morning and Martin told me to get a trickle charger simple as that, unless it's getting regular use especially at this time of year the battery won't have quite enough push for the big compression required. I've had mainly 4 cylinders so it was quite a surprise, perhaps I was niave? Anyway they are pre wired for a ducati optimiser and they gave me some discount off their already competitive price as I'm a new customer. Let's hope it's all it was, as it kept starting after a little run and with no fault codes showing I'm optimistic that will be an end to the issue. Have to say even with numb fingers I enjoyed my little ride yesterday, bike gets better everyime...
