848 - 'singing' petrol tank when cooling down

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by ngraham848, Mar 25, 2012.

  1. Hi - here's a strange one. Just been for a ride and about 10 minutes after putting the 848 away, I went back to garage to lock up and heard what sounded like the whistle you get when you blow across the top of a bottle. it repeated every 10-20 seconds or so and was very faint. Any ideas? Anyone else had this? Anything to worry about? Any ideas?

  2. nothing to worry about Nick - it's the fuel tank air vent sounding off. Some do, some don't, some only do it in hot weather. If you want to confirm this apply light to medium pressure on the side of the tank in the most 'pant-able' area - you may produce the sound just from doing this or if you do it mid-whistle it will interrupt/extend the sound.

So she's not serenading me then?!?!?

  4. Nah,

As Chris said she's just farting through the tank vent...she sings from the termi's!

  5. Ha ha ha - very true!

  10. Feck me I thought I was going mental

Mine whistles to me................don't wolf whistle tho!

  11. that's correct Nick

  12. Yeah, mine wheezes/whistles for a second or two when I put her away, repeats itself every ten - fifteen seconds or so, always has done, I'll start to get worried when it doesn't. Quite endearing really, real living, breathing machinery and all that, all adds to the character.
