848 Termignoni Question

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by Hutch, Jun 19, 2012.

  1. Hi Guys... Firstly many thanks for the kind welcome in the Newbie section.. To re-cap, I have just upgraded my 02 R6 for an 08 848.... What can I say?.. Simply amazing in all respects.. I cannot find a negative thing to say about that bike... Oh, hang on, crushed fingers at full lock.. But I can live with that hehe...

Right, my question.. & I'll bet this has been asked a million times before?... Whats the plan if in a year or so I want to upgrade the cans to Termi units?... A quick check on Ebay tells me its not as straight forward as the old R6 (Slip on a new can & Airfilter & off you go)... I'm seeing things like race ECU's / Exup overrides & it all looks a wee bit different to the older carb bikes.....

    Cheers

  2. The termi end cans come with a DP ecu and air filter.

The end cans are 2 springs, 2 10mm bolts and a 3mm or so little bolt, its about a ten minute job.

The ecu is a bit more time consuming....the ecu is pug and play with two milti plugs off the loom to plug it in....it's held in with one or two bolts I can't remember which, that's about another 10 mins, the time comes in taking the million screws out and in from the left side fairing.

One the ecu is refitted you really should reset the TPS, this can be done with the free Ducatidiag software and 20 quid set of leads or by a dealer when your done.

The air filter is a faf too, you remove the air tube cover and air tube from one side and slide it in, making sure the seal doesn't fall off the end.

The butterfly valve stays and no bypass is required although you can if you feel the urge.

It is really straight forward tho.

If you need help with ducatidiag Pm me or Chrisw on here and we'll give you any help you need to reset the tps.

  3. It's not a great deal more difficult. The Termi kit comes with all that's needed. Cans, air filter and a new "race" ECU to suit the new set up. Fit it and get the ECU paired to the bike and you're more or less sorted. The plot gets more complicated if using a.n.other supplier for cans where no ecu is supplied. Error codes pop up for EXL valve and lambda sensors. That's where the eBay trinkets come in to play.

  4. The exhaust and lambda problems will only come into effect if you change the full system and not just the end cans.

Termi end can no ecu. No warnings
Termi end can and end can ecu lambda is just ignored and exhaust valve cycles but then stays open. No warnings.
Termi or any system and no DP spec ecu lambda and exhaust valve warnings.

  5. Ahh I see... So really not a massive pain in the backside unlike the bank balance :) ..... Lets say I go full system complete with ECU & filter... real world what kind of gains would I be looking at?.. Also what is the increase in noise like?.... To be honest I'm amazed even the standard cans made it past the regulations... I'd guess there where a few brown envelopes stuffed with Euros flying about when Ducati originally launched the 848 haha.. Saying that, when I bought her last week there was a pair of Panigales knocking about..... Jesus!!

  6. Power.....virtually nothing.

The fuelling is better than the earlier stock ECU's, with the end can & ecu or the full system & ecu.

The full system sounds a whole different animal.....not particularly louder but a whole lot deeper.

I did the can's setup after about a month of owning the bike and upgraded to the full system about 10 month later.

  7. I have a full Termi system on mine and it actually lost power compared to just the end cans, until I had a power commander fitted and mapped by Mark at BSD in Peterboghorror. It now makes 129.93bhp at the wheel (or it did at the time).

  8. All sounds good guys... I'm thinking the smart money is saving up for the entire package including Dyno time afterwards.... Cheers guys

  9. Everything I've read and heard suggests the system is a waste of money, better off cans, filter and ecu tune rather than change

I believe the std headers are easily large enough and even the 1098 doesn't do much better with the larger system either

  10. That's probably very true Bradders, as the headers are only a mm or so bigger on the full system....and the stockers are big enough for the 1098.

For me the best things about the full pipework are audible and aesthetic, which don't equate to horses, but are

    1) The deeper (real Ducati) exhaust note.
    2) The removal of the big tea tray heat shield on the side.
    3) The removal of all the associated cables and big exhaust servo.

So for me moving up from my original cans to Termignoni cans then the rest of the system was worth it just for the above reasons.....if had of done it for the power increase between termi cans versus full system, to be honest I think I'd have been disappointed to say the least.

  11. Can't agree with you more. Thats why I did it. Infact thats why I do most of the things to my bike, as performance wise its more than enough for me!!
