853 engine

  1. SOLD

I have for sale an 853 engine built by Moto Rapido in Winchester during the Dr Desmo era which was put into a 748sp for a customer in 2004 who then decided to buy a 998 instead. I bought the bike and used it for track days until 2007 after which it has been unused. MR rebuilt the 748 for me in road spec using the original sp engine in early 2011 and although still substantially complete, the 853 no longer has throttle bodies, a clutch and a few ancilliary bits that were robbed to rebuild the 748. As the 853 was a finished project when I bought it I don't know what the spec is but I believe it has titanium con rods and a lightened and balanced crank. It certainly picked up and revved very freely and the dyno charts I was given indicated 100bhp at 7000rpm with useable power up to 11000rpm. I have the original purchase receipt and service receipts although I am sure Wilf will confirm that the engine is genuine and he may even remember what the spec was. £350 ono which includes a box of throttle body and injector bits of unknown pedigree and although I would prefer the engine to be collected, I would deliver within 50 miles of Basingstoke for an additional fee to be agreed. I only picked the engine up from MR's yesterday so no photographs until I can get someone to help me lift it out of the back of my car. PM or e-mail me at [email protected] if you are interested. Andy

  7. How many trackdays has the engine done, Andy.

I have a 748BP currently. Any idea as to what i would need to add to your engine that my bike doesn't already have?

  8. if you want to keep your 748 engine complete.i should have any extra bits that you might need?.

  9. I've tried to count the number of track days in my mind but my memory is crap and my brain is old and addled but it's not more than 10 since I bought it in 2004 and it hasn't been run since the last service in 2007 which didn't include belts. I believe the engine was originally built for or by Wilf at MR and do not know how much or if he even rode it before it got built into the 748sp. To my knowledge there is no parts taken off the engine that are not on your BP but a phone call to Phil, the workshop manager at MR (01962 877996 option 3), should confirm this. You will need to map the ecu to give you the right fuelling and the only external difference between the sp and you BP that I know of is I had a 45mmm to 50mm link pipe for 50mm Termi "open" cans. I see no reason that a standard system cannot be tuned only that it is unlikely to make the significant power and torque increases. Andy

  10. I recently fitted a 853 engine to my 748 I used the 748 throttle bodies and got a chip for the ecu from JHP for £60 John has an array of chips in his library and should be able to helpo, just give him the engine info. Unles you want to extract every last ounce of power this should be fine for road use. Hope this helps.

  11. At £350 one of you guys better buy this motor. Its a bargain even needing a service etc. Put it this way, on fleabay he could make a lot more just selling the barrels & pistons. The pistons are over £400 new alone..............

  12. The price has just gone up .... only joking. Just off to my (older) mate's 60th birthday party and my companion has volunteered to drive so I'll be off forum for a while and will probably make no sense what so ever later. Andy

  13. what's that stuff that looks like paint on top of the crankcase? (also joking) - as Cranker says, I believe a queue will develop if duke63 doesn't rip your arm off.

  14. It's the paper tissue I used to wipe the tears away from the pain of having my arm ripped off . Andy

  15. what i was getting at, was that that paint had normally gone/flaky by now Andy - particularly in that price bracket. (commiserations re: price btw - we will all think more highly of you now is only possible consolation )

  16. Sorry Chris missed the point but I'm curious, neither my 996bp nor my 748sp suffered in that way. Maybe it's because like them the 853 spent a lot of time under covers in a purpose built garage and not going out unless it was nice and warm
