My 888 isn't charging the battery, not investigated much yet, are there 'usual' suspects to check out first?
Output voltage from the reg/rec. should be about 14v dc. input voltage to the reg/rec from the alternator. That will increase with engine speed and be ac not dc. I don’t know off the top of my head what the values are for that but someone will be along soon to say I’m sure.
Various voltages gave been quoted for alternator output but from my own experience, approx 15 Vac per 1000 rpm. So about 30 Vac at 2000 rpm. Also check the wires and connector from alternator to regulator for signs of melting or burning and corrosion.
Its worth doing a visual eyeball check of the two wires from the LHS generator through to the regulator, it could be corroded at the connectors.
I could have sworn I typed more than just plain facts as per above . Anyway, you need to check the voltages back from the battery until you find where the breakdown is in the juice not getting to the battery to charge it. On a related note, you are sure it’s the fact the battery is not charging which is the issue aren’t you? It’s not a case of the battery not holding a charge is it ?
It's been s while unfortunately, but I recall checking the voltage at the battery with the bike running and it was low ( below 12v)
Below 12v would, as you surmised, indicate the ‘juice’ is just coming out of a poorly charged battery and nothing is going in. Time to get the multimeter out and probe a few circuits
