Does anyone know which ktm/aprilia rebuild kit fits the 899 brake master cylinder my brakes are still awful. I’ve had a search but can’t find anything.
Mine are crap also, I have a spare brembo RCS but it means removing the switch gear which I’m not super buzzed about
Doh ! Now if you’d said clutch… Have you got a KTM dealer near you? I took in my clutch master cylinder piston and raked through the spares until I found this direct replacement, better than paying £240 quid for a complete new master cylinder. Good luck on your hunt
I’ve bled them to death, cleaned the caliper pistons and they are still the same. It’s either the master cylinder or the abs pump but I don’t have a abs fault light on. When I brake I get a bit of brake bite but then you can feel the lever coming almost back to the bar with no extra braking, feels to me like fluid is going past the master cylinder piston seal.
Oh, I don’t get this, mine is just that if you are riding a tight road and you are going throttle/brake/throttle often the brake is consistent and firm, but after a while it looses its power and then the first pull you never get what you expect. I’ve read in the past that the bleed nipples in these m4.32 calipers are a problem and let air get drawn in through the threads. I was going to try changing the calipers first for some Brembo M4’s as they will also be an upgrade
Mine were like that to start with, you didn’t know what to expect when you pulled the brake but now they have moved on to really bad all the time even when bled.
Well I thought I’d fixed them after another good bleed and caliper clean, they started off pretty good today but as the ride went on they slowly got worse and they are now back to dangerous. It’s almost like they take on air with use.
Just to update this and how I fixed it for anyone viewing this in the future. Stripped everything. Master cylinder, both brake calipers and cleaned it all thoroughly. Master cylinder was absolutely fine and the caliper pistons seemed fine until you completely popped them and they had a thick black scale on them near the base. Scraped it all off with a plastic scraper and put everything back together. Brakes are now consistently good with 2 finger braking all that’s needed, no fade at all, did 300 miles today and they were as good when I got home as when I set off.
