899 Engine Rebuild

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by Nervy, Mar 8, 2018.

  1. Can anyone recommend a good engine re-builder in the Norfolk (UK) area, please? (Not Carl Harrison)

I helped my friend buy a pair of Ducati 899s for him and his mate to use at track days this year, and one of the bikes engines let go on the warm up lap.

Thanks in advance for anything anyone could reccomend.

  2. @nelly Cornerspeed at Nottingham would be worth a shout as official ducati service centre who has the best rep around. Or crate and send to @PGP down in Hampshire for a great independent ducati engine builder

  3. Thanks Bradders, I appreciate that.

  4. Living in Norfolk too, I can’t really think of any local engine rebuilders or Ducati specialists with an outstanding reputation. I would honestly do what Bradders said above....take the engine out, put it on a pallet and have it sent somewhere like conerspeed....Nelly has a superb reputation on here. If I had any problems I would be sure to contact him and get the work done :upyeah:...

  5. Thanks Daniel, I appreciate that.

  6. Rapido or jhp, they know these engines inside out, mines at jhp now having a refresh and I am 100% confidenti with them as they have built half the tri options engines, is yours a standard engine or a ex race bike ?

  7. They’re both ex tri-options bikes. The seller claimed both engines have just been refreshed. I suspect otherwise.

  8. If they had been refreshed prior to selling then there should be a receipt for the work done ?, any idea who they claim did the refresh, not a cheap thing a refresh 20+ hours labour plus parts.

  9. He says DWR Motorcycles.

Just stripped the bike. Block cracked. Valves totally smashed on rear Cyl.

  10. Ouch! Overheating???

In which case, find somewhere that can find the parts too. I’d still say Cornerspeed over the others mentioned, has built lots of race bikes and more likely to be ‘friendly’ on use of used parts I would suspect (casings or whatever needed). And it’s not far Norfolk to Nottingham, it’s mainly one road isn’t it? :upyeah:

  11. It’s the only road. Anywhere.

The bike was showing very low temps when it failed on a very, very cold day. There was nothing showing that would suggest otherwise.

  12. Thanks for the mentions, but in truth, if the block and head has gone, you'd be better sourcing another motor. There's one on eBay for £1995 or best offer. Just give it a once over before running it.

  13. 5 Years ago i bought an engine from ths place G Tec Performance apparently taught other Ducati Mechanics in the country... Its only in Leicestershire...

  14. Thanks Nelly. I appreciate your honesty and totally understand what you’re saying. We actually got another engine with the bike that I’m going to get checked out thoroughly, but if that’s no good then the fact that a used engine is 2k is probably the end of this particular adventure.

  15. @Nervy, not to get your hopes up but I think we have an 899 engine that was destined for a project which never materialised. Someone is going to have a look in the container and check to see if there was anything wrong with it. I'll let you know. Andy

  17. Jeff has since emigrated to Oz. Wayne still runs under the same banner but not sure if the spares mountain went when Jeff departed.

  18. Thank you Andy, I do so love it here. If only people in the “real world” were as honest and kind.
