900 Ss 39t Rear Sprocket Chain Length?

Discussion in 'Supersport (1974-2007)' started by Scottiebike, Dec 17, 2020.

  1. I have fitted a standard 15T front & 39T rear sprocket to lower the gearing as recommended to make the bike better at lower speeds. Kit was supplied with a 98 link chain (BikeTorque - great price & service) On fitting the kit today with the 98 link chain the adjusters seem very near the end of the adjustment slot. If I shorten the chain it moves way forward!

Anybody already done this , and what would you recommend? Pics show both alternatives - chain approx tensioned, but will as always "bed in" on first use. Will the reduction in wheelbase with the axle in the forward position make a real difference?

    thanks :)

chain shortened - ends up to front of slot

  2. To the front of the slot is ideal.

  3. It will not make any difference to your "feel" of the bike whether the axle is at the front or the rear of the swing arm slots.
I doubt even Rossi would notice any difference either ! ;)

  4. Thanks for the link - seems we have reached same conclusion , 96T as per standard is the way to go!
