900ss ie coughing and spluttering

  1. Hi Folks,

I'm after a bit of help.

I've just spent 4 days riding in France and on the second day I noticed the bike hesitating from time to time while doing constant motorway speeds (80mph at 5k) seemed worse when I went below 5k. symptoms only appeared obvious every 10 - 20 minutes or so and a change of throttle cleared it. It would also tick-over normally for a while then suddenly cut out, started again OK but needed a bit throttle sometimes. It also occasionally coughed and spluttered at around 6k when accelerating hard as if I'd hit the limiter. but when I repeated this a few minutes later it accelerated fine.
She was also much happier off the motorway (as was I) with the constant change of throttle either masking the problem or removing it (although not completely).

As I spent most of my time on a and b roads I was able to still enjoy my break and get home but would like some pointers as to what this could be and maybe look at some simple things before taking her off to the garage.

So any ideas as to what to look for would be gratefully received.

    Cheers

    Pat

  2. Water in the fuel, dirt in the tank, blocked fuel filter?

  3. O check your TPS connectors, they rust and that affects the running,a bit like you describe.
