900ss Oil Pressure Relief Valve

  1. I think I have a sticking oil pressure relief valve on my 1996 motor.

Before I pull off a side cover, can anybody reliably tell me what year they fitted the oil pressure relief valve into the oil pump i.e. take off the RH cover? (I'm aware early models had a separate relief valve directly accessible from inside the LH cover not incorporated into the oil pump)

  2. Nothing in the good old Haynes??

  3. Hi

What symptoms do you have that makes you think of a problem with the prv, ?
I thought i had a problem with my prv (left side on a 93 motor) when i stripped it the prv was ok and i traced the problem to slow oil return.
My problem was the oil light coming on within 2 to 3 miles, this only happened with a cold engine and slightly low oil level. The external oil return lines seem to restrict the cold oil return causing the oil pump to occasionally cavitate giving the impression that the prv had dumped the oil pressure.
Keeping the oil level at full and ALWAYS warming the motor in cold weather. means all is now ok
other than my neighbors not talking to me.
