I fitted SP Engineering carbon cans to my M900 so decided on the same carb set up, nope!, way too rich, so after much trial and error, carbs off 4 times!, I’ve finally got it right, so for reference it’s the same as the 900ss but float height is 14mm and mixture screws 2.75 turns out, I guess the difference is mainly down to the cans, hope that helps anyone who’s in the process of setting up a non standard Carby

  2. What year is your M900 Mark? Does it have the V2 or W marked heads? Different valve sizes and cams could also affect carb set up.

  3. It has V2 (1996) which I think have smaller valves than my 1991 900ss with V1 heads, yes I guess the valve size could also be a factor.

  4. V2 are the full size SS spec valves and cams. The valve seat material is difference between V1 and V2 heads.

The heads had changed by the ‘98 model year when the M750 was introduced and the 750 type head castings with smaller valves and different cams were also used on the M900.

The biger valves came back on the M900Sie.

  5. The early M900 V2 stamped heads have 43mm inlet valves and 38mm exhaust valves, listed as 900ss items.

The cams are also described as 900ss items:

  6. That would explain why the Monster doesn’t feel any less powerful than the 900ss then, thanks for clarifying that, good to know!

  7. I have pretty much got the monster where I want it now, a bit more cosmetic tidying required and I’m just waiting on some longer handlebar clamp bolts to arrive so that I can fit the 12mm spacers that I’ve made, then with the handlebars 12mm higher I can drop the 3 way showas through the clamps further to quicken the steering (may also go for hoop jacks but I’ll see how it feels as above first), after that I want to fit a bigger rear sprocket and then I’m done....apart from all the other things I’ll do when I think of them of course! :)
(fitting an 1100 lump is in the back of my mind for example ).
