Colin Shead on Twitter: "Training being delivered to the team today in the use of the exhaust meter. Anything over 90dB & expect a £50 fine. https://t.co/jjG7BzbyQ5"
Would be interested to see how a Harley Davidson gets on and given that, a stock 899/1199/1299 which we all know couldn't hit 90dba. Andy
Sounds like a load of bollocks to me from our illustrious Police Force who should be putting effort into the thieving scum. Idiots (Not all are but that one is: I used to go out with a biker chick WPC who policed Squires and surrounding area) Edit: she dumped me :-(
I suppose the ' A silencer that is in such a condition or is of such a type that the noise emitted is clearly in excess of that which would be produced by a similar machine fitted with a standard silencer in average condition. ' part is the bit to worry about for those with mods, but no mention of 90dB!
Euro 4 I think is a drive by test and 80dB. Euro 5 coming in 2021 will be lower. Despite Brexit I doubt the manufacturers will build noisy versions just for what's left of the UK.
If its not marked "not for road use" there's bugger all they can do about it. And since when did the police start creating offences or give themselves the power to levy fines?
I'm friends and family who work in the police force, but that said I'm really starting to loose my rag with their senior management directed war on motorists. I want to see a fully funded task force baiting, prosecuting and jailing the thieving scum operating in and around London. Lets get the whole team... top man down to the actual grab merchants. It's just so easy for them to get away with it at present. Vans being broken into, top cars and bikes being stolen. They know who they are.... forget being all PC about Diddys and sensitive Asian areas (several estates in Slough).... get in the campsites and break these gangs!
They weren't so keen to get round to ours when someone broke into ours and stole all my bike gear fishing gear and snap on tools! We had footprints and blood as evidence, Miss Marple could have solved this one with ease.. the cop shop said they couldn't attend. We got a call a week later asking, how are you coping..... ? But go up the road on my bike and they seem very keen to chat or visit with me...
Maybe put pressure on London MPs to ask questions in Parliament? It's a national disgrace and they are trying to get elected right now. Maybe a bikers demo with hundreds of bikes riding around and around Parliament square??
Just read the post about 90db being checked, and found the location of the mic' interesting - eg pretty much directly in line with a 1299 exhaust outlet. I think I'd be fighting the fine, fitted as my bike is with a totally standard exhaust...
Unless things have changed, there is still some law they can fall back on which refers to something like "driving a vehicle in a manner which causes excessive noise" - with subjective opinion of policeman being all that's needed.
I don't really see that they can do anything to be honest if the bike is standard. It was approved and cleared for the road when manufacturered. Which is very much different from matey down the road fitting a decat straight through flame spitting ear buster to his zx10. I wouldn't worry to be honest.
None of my bikes would pass, nor would I want them to. You need something to distract the driver from his Twat Nav and phone calls.
There's nothing stopping you from modifiying your standard exhaust and rewelding or building it back up as it came from factory ? My wouldn't pass this db's test, its a standard exhaust on the outside but the inside... Let's say it straight through...
