916 coolant tank issues

  1. Hi all, My 98 916 had the dreaded pinhole in the coolant tank so i replaced it with a new one. The only problem is with the new one the plastic where the metal filler neck goes into it isnt as deep on the new tank and so when the bike warms up it leaks between the neck and the tank. Im going to order another filler neck and see if its any different from the one i have otherwise im stumped. Anyone else come accross the same problem??

    Thanks

  2. My 748 used to bubble a bit from around the neck so I fitted a slightly thicker O ring and that sorted it.

  3. calling DukeDesmo... it is a known fault holla, particularly on the hotter running/hotter climate bikes. You might find even a new one will split if your's is prone to running a little hotter. People have gone to extreme measures to eradicate this problem and hopefully DD will pick this thread up.

  4. Yes, I got through about 6 tanks, 3 in one year and one leaked from new - that one was swapped under warranty but not the one that failed after just a few weeks, I was told "no warranty" shocking really because there's no reason that a tank like that should leak other than them being crap.

In the end I bought a custom aluminium tank which should out last the bike...
