916 Etc Engine/frame Bolts.

  1. I know they came in different diameters. 10 & 12mm, but did they also come in different lengths?
I'm trying to use one of the bolts from and older frame/engine on a 996 (I think frame) and they appear not to be long enough.
The depth of the part of the frame that the bold sits on appears to be further out, necessitating the need for a longer bolt. ...If you follow?
Are perhaps the later ones longer.
    Bolts I have below;

  2. I think they changed to 12mm bolts for 2000. For the ST series the 12mm bolts are longer and the frame is thicker at the cup where the bolts go through. I'd expect the same would be the case for the 996 and later 748s.

  3. My pic shows a 10 and a 12mm, both the same length...Confused...:Bag:

  4. I think the 10mm is for the 748 and the 12mm is 996. When I was looking at putting a 996 engine in the 748 frame, I was advised that the engine bolts were different diameters. Andy

  5. Yup - happy that the diameters are different, but I appear to need longer ones...?

  6. The bolt length of the 12mm ones from the ST4s [996] is 250mm.
The bolt length of the 10mm ones from the 888 is 240mm.

  7. When I changed the frame on my 748E for a 748R frame the original bolts were too long. They were 12mm diameter. I used spacers in this case.

  8. Appears the frame I'm working with has the cups for the bolts set 10mm per side further outward.
    So, instead of the 230s I have I need some 12mm 250's.
    Anyone have a pair? :Banghead:

  9. There are two types of 10 mm boltthat I have found on 748's, one is a true bolt (a set screw) and has a fixed head and is threaded at one end. The very early ones were a threaded rod with nuts at both ends and were slightly longer.

Are the bolts you have from a 748 or possibly some other model?

  10. I think the ones in the pic are the old 10mm nut at each end type, the other one is from a 848 I think.
Found some from a Monster that I think will do the job.

    :upyeah:
