I have two pillion seats for my bip, the one that is currently fitted does not have the big hooks/support brackets attached. Today I tried to fit the other seat but it will not fit as the hooks foul and prevent the seat studs from lining up with the holes in the tail. Can somebody clear this up, should it have them fitted or not?
There are two different biposto subframes, one has studs for latching the hooks on the pillion seat, the other doesn't. Picture hastily stolen from ebay: I don't know what year the subframe changed but it's likely your 916 will have the stud-less version and hence no hooks on the pillion seat.
I think the hooks were put on to the 996 onwards as an extra 'security' measure. I have a '98 (last year model) 916 and there were no such hooks.
Thanks chaps, mines a 97 and has no hooks so it all makes sense. Cheers. PS. Anybody want to buy a red pillion seat with the hooks?
