916 Rebuild (to Finish)

Discussion in 'Builds & Projects' started by Strada_67, Nov 13, 2019.

  1. Hi everybody!
As said in the presentation, I bought a 94’ 916 which has been stored for 13 years in a workshop, the guy who sold me the bike has started to restore it, but had no more time to end the job. Below how I get the bike :

First job : repair the hole on the tank ... around the drain plug

I get most of the original parts, only the OEM front fairing is missing... The 916 has already been serviced : oil drain, new tires, brake pads, chain kit, etc ...

  4. Wow the metal rats are out in force:eek:,welcome aboard & a grand project you've there.:upyeah:

  5. Hi,
    Question
I have two different assembly for the side panels of the fairing. One side is screwed and the other has some rivets. What is original? It is possible to have both? Where can I source the rivets? I can’t find them in the partlist.

    Thank you

  6. Rivets were the very early fairings

  7. That's my understanding as the above comment^^^^^^^^

  8. As said rivets where on the early bikes.
Early bikes also had non adjustable levers, wich you seem to have as well.
What is the frame number off the bike?

    Henk!!!

  9. Great project!
You've come to the right place

  10. Frame number 001517. I'm searching also brake and clutch lever pins, also missing. I ordered pins but I get bigger ones, probably pins for the adjustable levers

  11. Frame nulber is not that low then.
Mine is #1419 and did not have the rivets and non adjustable levers anymore.
But back in the days stranger things did happen.

    Henk!!!

  12. Welcome, lovely bike good luck with resto :upyeah:

  13. Hi,
Some news, I’ve found some parts :
    - MS front mudgard, OEM front fairing which must be repainted
    - Old tank, this one is painted inside in the contrary of mine!
After re-installing the fuelpump, new air filters and some sealings, I’ve started the engine which run fine! :D
The carbon airbox I have was made by Carbotech Karl Wagner (Austria), does anybody this manufacturer, it is something original?
Other question, fairing side panels, have no heatshields, is it normal? Should I add something?
    Thank you
    Gilles
