Wondering if anyone can help or pass on experience, I have a 2017 959.. bought new from the dealer.. I've done 2500 miles its had tyres and service all at the dealer etc.. so I know the bike and history. Recently I've noticed the gears have been a bit tighter to shift than usual.. and neutral very hard to find when pulling up, then riding this week I've missed a couple of gears.. one could have ended badly as mid exit a fast corner.. I've now realised its getting a false Neutral in 3/ 4 th. I thought it was just me being a bit crap.. at riding this week but I know the bike and its not right.. anyone have similar experiences.. its going into the dealers next Saturday but of course I'm not sure what they will find or if will be warranty covered..
Is the chain slack/tight spot? Any loosening of the gear lever peg? I know the tri options guys go thru gearboxes like Wallace goes thru Wensleydale, but they are using all the performance all the time so high stress. (Although many only do a few hundred miles before issues arise)
The chain was done at the dealers.. we checked it last night and it seems about spot on.. Maybe a little tight if over critical but any looser and it will touch the top of the Akras I fear. I have a track bike so this is just fast road use.. and I've always been over sympathetic on the gearbox as plan to keep the bike a while.
Yes ... I hope in truth its something simple.. right now I dont feel overly confident about riding it.. the strangest thing is it seems to have increased engine braking.. I rode back last night about 70 and left off in 6th and actually slid forward a little, brakes are not binding at all.. Once again maybe I'm over thinking lol.. Agreed under warranty.. I reminded the dealer of this when booking in.. typical well we will have to look at it first! Ahem!
Feel your pain. Once something is in your head, it can be tough to get it out and then becomes exaggerated. Maybe have a mate ride it and don’t tell them what you are worried about (not a dealer, they never find the faults anyway )
I would definitely try an oil change, if you don't ride too often but don't mind an oil change now and then use motul 300v, i found the gears were boggy before i did an oil change, it was only at 2500 miles, id just bought the bike. Simple cost effective plan. Worst case the take it apart to find out!
Do these have a slipper clutch? Never had one but I believe they need regular maintenance to work properly. Increased engine braking would fit with the clutch not doing it's slipper thing properly and not being able to find neutral and stiffness changing gear are indicative of clutch drag.
Yes in truth it does short miles mostly so maybe worth while doing... its had its first all change when it was due so it wouldnt hurt..although its only just 12 months old so not due yet, I have to agree not sure what the dealer will find either.. I have a mate that would ride it but in my opinion it aint right and wouldnt wish him to find Neutral.
Factory fit slipper clutches generally are designed to be as maintenance free as a standard clutch. I would be looking at the gear linkage, has it gummed up and got grit in it making the linkage stiff? possible also that the quickshifter is malfunctioning which will have the effect of making the lever stiff because the bike doesn't want to shift until the power has been cut.
Thanks all, linkage is good.. but I'll check to be sure.. it moves freely but certainly more resistance when riding.. I really notice this downshifting and was when I really thought something isnt right

Agee with Phil, start with the linkage, clean and lube up, give the clutch a bleed, if non of the above take it back to the dealers
Bleed first. Bottom then at he top via the M/C nip. Mine got difficult to select gears/neutral while in Almeria, quick pump and bleed at the the top and all was well again.
Interesting .. ok I'll do that and can put my recent one way bleed valve to use!! Thanks all.. will report back!
Yeah, let us know, if it's tight on downshift more than up, I would go straight to 'clutch drag'. The effect could be that there is air in the clutch slave and when you are quick with the clutch it is okay but if you take your time the air compresses and lets the clutch close again and then you get issues, or even it could be heat related. Either way, fresh fluid, check all linkages and then get it to the dealer if it's still an issue.
Do you have new boots? Sometimes something as simple as a change of riding gear can make gear changes a little less positive, leading to the issues you've described, especially if the boots are still a little stiff for lack of breaking in. If you were then to be riding in the new boots, it may just need the gear lever moving up or down a spline
Thanks Borgo, nah boots well worn in.. definately as issue.. I plan to bleed the clutch see what happens.. if not dealer can look at and I'll enjoy a courtesy bike for a week..
