hi there I am under new ownership of my first Ducati's But after changing the belts, because the bike had sat for while . did a couple of rides on it , an ard day and a 200mile round trip in a day all was well But I washed it the other day , started it up about 6 hrs later and it ran for around 5 mins then stopped. it tries to start and smoke comes out the exhaust but nothing any way near tick over I have cleaned all the electrical connections, checked the spark plugs (they are sparking) checked the oil breather . ..... and read loads on this forum . can any seasoned ducati people help ........please ??
takes quite a lot for sumit not to run. your getting a spark, now fuel and compression checks. fuel pump priming when ignition on? does the engine sound like it's spinning faster than normal of the button?
Yep,need more info, whats it doing when you put ignition on?Does it prime? As above, does it spin up normally?Anything abnormal happening?
You say you have checked all electrical connectors but the one I'm guessing that you haven't checked is the air pressure sensor connector which is just below/in front of the fuel tank and is prone to taking on water particularly if saturated. This also fits your your symptoms quite well.
Is it low on fuel after your spin and check the drain hole under the fuel cap maybe it's blocked and water from the wash has gone into the tank . Mine drain hole was blocked and when I opened the cap after a wash there was water sitting in around the cap and some water went into the tank .
hi hi thanks for the replies firstly I have only had the bike for a couple of weeks and am still getting to know it thanks vtwin dave I will check the drain hole , I didn't power wash it just with a sponge and watering can thanks Chris I will look at this now .....well its not wet and I will test it tomorrow cheers Finn an keith916 I'm getting a spark and the plugs are wet with fuel .the fuel pump primes but from lookn on the forum and chatting to greyman I have taken the fuel pump off to see if the lines are split thanks again for your solutions I am having a day off tomorrow so will have a look at the points raised taa
dont know if its common with the 748 but i had an issue with my multy for about to years then finally gave up the ghost, it would spark when no load on the engine during starting ie plugs out but wouldn't start eventually it wouldnt spark when plugs out, but it would if bumped. new starter required for that fault.
lol cheers its light and airy and has a lovely view of the garden lol I some times put the fountain on in the pond to calm me down when my ducati is not f**in startin lol
oh year I have had a great time on it shoo far , I was tooled that the 748 was not much of a bike , but it is such a sweet handling bike and ideal for uk roads , and cheers for the support
I bought mine in November, it went wrong twice in the first 4 rides. Average is getting better now, touch wood.
shoo checked most of the checkable electrics ,sensors, relays, connectors, injectors... changed the fuel pipe In the tank , charged the battery........ and still no joy lookin at the ECU now ??
Yes, didn't want to depress you or get shot down by other members but you're right this is a possibility as well. If you haven't got the original void sticker over the rubber bung on top of the ECU then it needs to have some well applied ducktape instead otherwise it will take on water with obvious consequences there are several threads on here that deal with this btw
