Hi, I am looking at a potential upgrade for my 748. Its in the form of a complete 996 engine, but it does not come with injector's &throttle body. Many sellers on the tinter-web state the parts are the same used on 748/916/996. Is this the case? Would I need to change my ECU too or is it a relatively straight swap? Cheers
748 Single injector throttle bodies will be fine. in fact, one mod on the 996 dual injector bodies is to disconnect the second injector and run on one per cylinder only to aid better fueling. The second injectr is only really required if you arer tuning to 130+bhp.
Single injector is indeed a good mod on the 996. You don't need to swap the ECU, just the eprom. A "open pipe" chip for a 916 will be a good starting point. Don't use a 996 eprom as it's assuming you have 2 injectors per cylinder. The 748 throttles are smaller bore than the 996 but again, unless you're pushing on with mods to up the BHP significantly it won't be an issue.
Thanks guys, Another question, this is running the 3 phase alternator. My 748 is single phase, what difference would this make to the loom/components.....? Also, I don't have an oil cooler, but the 996 does. It seems like a good upgrade, is it essential for the build or could it be added later? Cheers
Modding the wiring and fitting a later 3 phase reg is defo worth doing. I'd go same way with cooler tbh. 748 doesn't need it, but 996 makes more heat and can only help.
