996 Oil Light

  1. Can someone give me some advice? Recently changed the oil and filter, used Castrol Power 1 Racing, fully synthetic! Ever since I have had an intermittent oil pressure light come on! Not all the time, usually when in slow traffic and revs below 5000!

Went on a 60 mile ride today, for the first 20 miles had the same issue, but for the rest of the ride it was fine!

Any advice would be appreciated! The engine sounds sweet, mileage 14000!

    Thanks

  2. I think it might be the oil pressure switch, at least, they are a known vulnerable item on my 916....

have a search on the site, there are options other than the ducati item I believe.

  3. As above, 1st port of call would be to check and replace the oil pressure switch. Also did you use a genuine oil filter??
I'd also be looking at replacing that too, since its only started since you changed it.

  4. As above also disconnect the the electrical plug from the pressure switch
put this too earth with a piece of wire etc with the ignition on
just too check that it is not dash / wiring related problem

  5. Thanks for all the advice, I will check the oil pressure switch.. but I didn't use a genuine Ducati oil filter, so thinking it might be that!!

  6. Pressure switch or connection is my guess, otherwise I think it would be rattling by now.

  7. Just got round to looking at the oil pressure switch..which I have found is the source of another problem I noticed last weekend, small oil leak... oil appears to be seeping through the switch itself, not at the threaded connection.. so wondering if the oil could be shorting out the switch??

  8. Another known problem I think, I had this myself, oil pressure switch then just stopped working.

  9. All fixed, no oil leak and no intermittent oil light :)

Wondering how many other standard parts there are on cars that would be straight swaps for Ducati parts.. and a hell of a lot cheaper too! Loads of electrical parts I'm sure! Worth starting a thread?
