I'd be grateful if anyone has any set up advice on suspension settings for road riding on a 996bip. I've recently returned the bike to the road after a lengthy rebuild including shock and forks. Everything is set back to factory settings at the moment but it just doesn't feel as right as it did before the rebuild. Perhaps the roads have got worse? Obviously the shock was tired before the rebuild and the refurb has stiffened things up a tad but I'd like to sort it for the road now - any advice greatly appreciated.
Won't the people that rebuilt the shocks/forks set up all your suspension for you? Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk
I went through this about 2 year back, was a very long thread on it. I also had a MCN article on setting up the 996 but can't find it. I'll search the garage tomorrow.... Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk
996/748 Suspension Setup It's a dark art suspension. What works for you may not float the next guys boat etc. Try link above for options. Then tweak one bit at a time .... Sorry but that's the extend of my advice.
Here is the MCN 1 page article for the suspension set-up on a 998. I don't know whether suspension set-up on a 996 is identical, but it's very similar. I hope this helps.
Thanks everyone for your help. Agree that it's a dark art and I guess it's so subkective depending on your weight and riding style. Thanks for your settings guys and the links. I'll make a start on it for the weekend.
Maybe a silly question but are you using the same tyre pressures as before?. 32f 34r for road use is the sweet spot (Ducati recommendation, not what the tyre manufacturers suggest which are too firm) IMHO. Otherwise depending on your wherebouts there are a few places that set them up really well, but a Ducati specialist like Louigi Moto will do it best
Both tyres have good tread and are not squared off at all but are due for replacement soon. I wonder if it's worth waiting for new boots before working through the settings? That said, some experimentation with the suggested numbers is going to be hard to put off if the weather holds for the weekend.
When I got my 996 tyres had loads of tread but 6 years old. Put up with them for a bit but new rubber made a huge difference. Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk
