996 seat question

  1. Now then, first post in the 'superbike' forum for me - recently bought a lovely yellow 996, which is currently sitting in my dad's garage waiting for the local snow drifts to thaw out. Just been over to check on it and while there I lifted the seat unit, which is an aftermarket mono unit (done to a high standard by Baines). When I lowered it back down I couldn't get a satisfying click out of the latch, but it was definitely locking. Now the seat feels loose and wobbly, and I'm sure it wasn't like that before. There's no light in my dad's garage and the bike is right at the back so I couldn't really see what i was doing. Just wondering if this sounds 'normal' and how much play I should feel in the whole seat unit once clicked home? Ta.

  2. does sound as though something not quite right - but just for the record they always were a little floppy and unsupported toward the back even as standard - the Biposto even got some added foam bolsters to try and improve matters. If you have a detailed look at the rubber cushions and the locking mechanism you may be able to improve it with adjustment.

  3. Ok thanks Chris. I spotted the foam bolsters on my spare biposto seat unit so I might add some at the same points on the mono seat to stop the 'rolling'.

  4. I just opened a re 'clicked' my std mono (it's in the living room :)) and it was more reassuring than I remember so maybe your striker or 'receiving' bar is slightly misaligned or dry even Pete?
