Good afternoon to all, I've been trying to decipher a VIN on what appears on its face (and reg documents) to be a base 996 UK biposto model of 2000 that I am contemplating to purchase. Have consulted this forum on the official Ducati.org VIN interpretation and have tried the official Ducati recall database but getting "not found" returned on my enquiry, which has me thinking as to whether I should hold off from buying. Has anyone had similar experience with the a VIN along the lines of ZDMH2D0AAXB00 XXXX on a base 996? Is it legit? Thanks in advance
My initial thought was indeed that but it is a D (as is the "H" strangely enough). Even tried it as a "0" and still nothing comes up on Ducati recall
heres the VIN from my 1999 base model, looks the same Frame number ZDM H200 AA X B 00xxxx except the "D" Nelly mentions...
Nick from the factory workshop manual this may help a bit, you will need to check the net for the full list of codes for each position. Yours looks like an MY99, if you check the frame behind the tank it has a date stamp which shows when the frame was assembled which may be as long ago as 98. Your VIN looks legit The codes are Model Year Code 9 = 1979 A = 1980 B = 1981 C = 1982 D = 1983 E = 1984 F = 1985 G = 1986 H = 1987 J = 1988 K = 1989 L = 1990 M = 1991 N = 1992 P = 1993 R = 1994 S = 1995 T = 1996 V = 1997 W = 1998 X = 1999 Y = 2000 1 = 2001 2 = 2002 3 = 2003 4 = 2004 5 = 2005 6 = 2006 7 = 2007 8 = 2008 9 = 2009 Manufacturing Plant Code B = Bologna Italy V = Varese Italy (the old MV factory)
Thank you very much for this Denzil; much helpful. It would be comforting however if Ducati's official VIN checker would recognise it somehow (which it doesn't).
