Folks, Having only just migrated from Ducatisti, I have a question for you. I've got a mono 998 FE sat in the garage, and have always maintained she is going nowhere. She isn't minty mint, but is nice and clean, other than a leak of something that has stained the engine casing brown. Anyway, was looking at the Ducati Wolves website, as I went them to strip and repaint my engine, and what should I see they are selling, a damn gorgeous Bostrom rep!!!! I know I would have to chuck some cash into the deal. I would also add that I will use the bike, after all that's the primary reason for buying a Ducati in the first place. My question is which would be the better long term 'investment'?
R and S versions are always the best investments, the reps are imo of limited appeal. Personally I think the Bostrom looks like a dogs dinner compared to the traditional red or even dare I say it yellow.
Individual taste I suppose, the Bostrom rep is absolutely gorgeous I think. I don't think it's worth regarding either as an investment, you need the one that will keep you looking at it in admiration for years to come!
Just shown wifey a pic of the Bostrom rep. She reckons it looks like Wonder Womans pants!! Might go and have a look at it anyway.
Have a go on the Bostrom if you haven't ridden a 996. Different motor charecter, maybe with future probs with rocker chrome which would put me off ownership.
If its an official Bostrom Rep it's a 998S with Ohlins front and rear not a 996! In fact it's identical to a 998FE! Should come with a blue paddock stand, numbered yokes, BB155 cover and an official plaque in a blue box. Stuff to look for - should have blue grips, frame, wheels and headlight bucket otherwise something's up, note they made 3 batches of 155, 155 for the US no deep sump (in essence a base 998 motor due to emissions) but full carbon bodywork and a signed tank, 155 for Europe and 155 for the rest of the world. Loved mine 063/155
I still miss my Bostrom and wish I handnt had to sell it. The opinions on this thread pretty much some up the Bostrom, either love it or hate it and not much in between. Take a look at one in the flesh, they are a thing of beauty and the small details really make it something special. Is it an investment though? As long as you pay the right price then you shouldn't lose much, if anything.
Excellent, it does indeed have all those 'options'. It is number 40, plaque on the yoke. Whats the BB155 cover? It's up at £9000 with 5500 miles. I nearly bought one a couple of years ago, price was £5500 for a similar bike. Bought a 996s instead.
Firmly on the Bostrom side of the fence, bought mine 3 years ago with just over 11k on it and expect to see 20k on the clock this year. Only comes out from April through to September and it attracts loads of attention wherever it goes. If you've never ridden a 998s then you don't know what you're missing, it's got to be the best engine Ducati ever built. Love mine and have no intention of selling it for a VERY long time, if I can't ride it then I'll just sit in the living room looking at it and loving it.
How about a 888 SP4 as a cool Duke and investment? View attachment 4769 How could you want a bb over a fe?
Been cleaning the FE today (lord knows why, not like it's dirty). Still can't decide which one I would prefer sitting in my conservatory when I'm done with riding. Would I look at the BB in several years and think " That's a bit gash"? Kind of like the way we look at shell suits today. No offence to shell suit wearers of course. Whereas the FE is timeless. ooops, decision made me thinks. Still going to look at it though, just to make sure.
You initially talked about which would be the better investment. Well that's got to be the FE,coz you already own it. You'll lose a little when you sell it and you'll pay a bit more than its worth for the Bostrom. The Bostrom would have to rise in value more than the FE just to offset the sale/purchase costs.
Fair point mate, can't argue with that logic. When I think why I bought the FE (I had been bike less for a year or so, and it was only an FE or RC45 that would have bought me back into the fold), I can't sell it, I think I would regret it. Just wish I could afford both.
A few yaers back, I went to trade my fe for a rc30 at Dobles. On looking back at the fe on the forecourt after fueling it up, I decided to keep the fe and pass on the rc. A few years after that, I was able to buy a rc and keep the fe. I have since sold the Honda and kept the Ducati. That said, the Honda was a superb bike! View attachment 4770
