998 998s Clutch

  1. 998s clutch, I've read somewhere mention of slipper clutches, am I right to assume this is an aftermarket mod not stock items?

  2. Yes, aftermarket mod, here's mine. Picture also shows the shallow sump engine of the BIP - although mine is 134 BHP at the rear wheel with 67ft-ibs of torque

  3. I have a slipper clutch on two of my three bikes and on the road it makes no real difference unless you ride hard. For track use it has greater benefits.

If you buy one get a decent one as cheap ones do not work as well and can be quite grabby if not set up properly.

  4. I did wonder because of it being a twin (engine braking).

I had a 4 stroke "single" 640cc supermoto and I think it would have been handy for that, really had to slow down before going down the gears and it meant having to brake very early... did not like that bike much at all.

I don't plan on riding this bike hard.

  5. A good blip on the throttle on the downchange is sufficient for road use and although the engine braking is stronger than on a Jap. multi the gears are well spaced enough to make downchanging no problem.

I use a 748R on track and I don't have a slipper clutch on that and I have never had a "moment"

  6. You may not plan too, but they like it when you do!

  7. Agree with that. I remember early on in 998-ownership having the back step out a bit, but it was a horribly clumsy block downshift, and wet.

It has all the s parts on it, the log book, frame and duke UK say it is an S and I can see the sump does extend into that belly pan in a V shape?

    So all looks good?

  9. P4/34 Brake calipers as well which were not on the 998 base model.
