999 Biposto Pillion Seat Won't Unlock

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by Xfin999, Jul 11, 2018.

  1. So i've recently purchased a 999 which i'm pretty happy with however one issue that I want to resolve is the Pillion seat. My wife is an upholsterer so she's going to recover the seat as it's seen better days, however I've found that there is no cable attached to the locking mechanism to release the seat.

I've tried to get a screw driver under the seat (wrapped in a cloth so it doesn't do too much damage) but blindly shoving it in there and wiggling it around isn't getting me anywhere.

Anyone got any clues how to get it free as i'll replace the cable as well when I get the damn thing off.

  2. Has the cable dropped out of the lock locator as it does all the time with the 916,so the cable should be there somewhere or not:thinkingface:

  3. I've had a good look and I can't see any evidence of the cable between the lock and the seat so I think a previous owner has removed it, put the seat back and then possibly realised their error and just left it that way.

  4. i'm guessing its a coat hanger job. Its just a case of the best angle to get in there as i'm not 100% where the latch is located so anyone with a 749/999 Biposto and a camera would be a saviour!

  6. Mine moves really easy with light finger pressure.

If you need a cable I may have one from where I skillfully altered a BP to mono.

  7. He just said he stuck a screwdriver in and wiggled it about.

  8. OK, let me know if you need a cable.

  9. PS, i think I've also got a red seat in pretty good condition.

  10. So just to help anyone else that comes across this problem in the future, I took a plastic coated wire coat hanger and bent the corner of it like so:

Then slipped it under the seat as shown below and pushed the mechanism open

    and it popped up nicely.

  11. yea looks like I will have to take you up on that replacement cable.

The previous owner also did a good number on powder coated frame with his screwdriver wiggle method.

Thanks again for the photos! really helped.
