Have been thinking of a mono conversion for some time but been put off by the price; until now..... I have managed to pick up a new (but unpainted) one piece bibposto single seat conversion for £55 which will hopefully be arriving next week. 15 minutes with an angle grinder followed by a few strokes of hammerite and the biposto sub frame can pass for a mono. I know the mono is a bit shorter and lighter but the biposto sub frame is stronger and less prone to the exhaust mounting bracket from cracking and I have been informed is also a lot more crash resistant. Anyway a photo of the sub frame is below and will post some final pics once I get the seat unit painted.
No just the footpeg hangers at the moment. The bodywork I bought is for a bip sub frame so I wont need to cut it down.
I am really pleased with the quality of the seat unit but it doesnt seem to align quite right. The OEM unit has a couple of bolts hold the rear of it to the sub frame but the after market unit doesnt. Any one any ideas of how to secure it so it ligns up correctly?
If it doesnt have the two bolt holes to secure it to the subframe or the pin and grommet at the end, how is it actually attached? Check that the tank is pushed all the way forward and that the seat is secured on the first hole in the subframe which may create the space required to clear the exhaust can. If it doesnt attach properly I wouldnt use it as you dont want it going missing while out riding..... I agree with your points about the subframe and having had one snap on me while out I must admit that ive considered this option also. For a bit more money I would have gone for one of these as it fits your criteria and looks very nice.... It definatley cant come off as its secured through the main seat bolts. Any idea how you move the seat and tank? It was hard enough just realeasing stuff to fit the unit on!? I had one of the pad converters before but wanted a single unit.
Scrap that last question - just RTFM and its ony the mono that is adjustable. I'm not worried about it coming off as the entire seat needs to be removed before it is going any where. I just imagined it would fit a bit more flush with the pipe.
How about striping down a pillion pad fr the latch then plastic welding that to the seat fairing? That could secure it closer to the subframe/exhaust?
On the factory mono set ups, there is a pin located in a brass boss in the rear of the seat unit. This locates in to a rubber grommet on the rear of the mono sub frame. This locates the rear of the seat unit and holds it down, flush to the can. Think you need to look at putting something in place that will allow you to pull the back of your seat unit down.
Was a bit of a faff but done. At least I got to play with my ginder and fire!!!! Off to halfords for some fiberglass to attach it to the under side of the new seat.
