So first ride out after replacing my pillion seat cable and my pillion seat now pops up over 5000 RPM. Anyone have any suggestions on what to do to fix this? It doesn't seem to be an issue with the cable so i'm really just stumped.
That is freaky. Some sort of harmonic effect from vibration? If you change the pitch of the spring on the cable, perhaps it will be less sensitive to vibration from the exhaust/engine?
If the material is thicker on the new seat it's probably not latching fully even if it seems to be - give it a big thump to locate perhaps
Yeah i considered cable tying it down but I don't like the idea of having to fiddle about if I wanted it off to get at any screws etc in there. Tried sitting on it and jumped up and down a bit on the paddock stand and it didn't click down any further but i think you might be on the money with the new re-covering. Looked at it this morning and there is a little lip about 10mm in from the edge on the plastic base of the seat that the new material goes slightly beyond. I'll trim it back later on which should hopefully sort it. I guess the excess material must be trying to push the seat up and the vibration just makes it pop.
So unfortunately i'm no closer to solving my issue. It doesn't seem that the new leather is in contact with the rear frame anywhere tho. The only options are the seat covering, the female mechanism attached to the frame or the male mechanism attached to the seat. Anyone in the north west have a 999 biposto and a spare hour for a brew and a test of my pillion seat on their bike?
