While filtering through traffic on the M4 on friday my revs wouldn't drop below 5k. After about a minute it dropped to 3k then a bit further it was ok. The throttle was normal, no slack or snagging feel. I faffed about with the cold start lever which altered the revs as it should, so nothing wrong there. Its been fine since but a bit worrying. Any ideas? luckaz said tps? Do they stick? Cheers Keith.
That sounds a bit shit! If it is the TPS remember your Forum Discount (Ducati Dealers have been buying mine :Angelic: and Aston Martin Works even use them on resto's)
After 6 trouble free months and 3-4000 miles this gremlin has come back. This time approaching a town in rain so again a bit dodgy, at least the gf wasnt pillion this time. After a minute of frantic blipping and playing with cold start I rode using the clutch then it sorted itself out like last time for the last 10 miles home. The cables feel fine, it was stuck at 4000 revs. I will take the throttle off and check the cables but I dont think thats the problem. 05 facelift with 37,000 done. Any ideas please. Cheers, Keith.
Don't see how the TPS would get the revs that high? For that speed you would need the air as well as the fuel so I would be looking for a sticking linkage or throttle butterfly not fully closing. Don't know if the throttles are the same but the butterfly valve on the 916 throttle is held onto the spindle/shaft with 2 torx head screws and if they get slightly loose the plate can move making it slightly out of line. I had this on my 916 and the throttle wouldn't fully close, didn't cause it to rev high but did mess with setting the TPS on a closed throttle...
yip, you might get the revs but not the power, got a recollection of chris mentioning something about linkages but think that was after a rebuild. happened once on my 848 during the first season. the revs and power where present. yip. put me off for a while. are the throttle body's/carbs prone to freezing on these models?
The fast idle cable can move/sit awkwardly on or around a flat part of the headlight housing, down the LHS of the headstock. Usually causes idle to rise and fall as the bars are turned, but worth checking if moving the fast idle lever seems to sort it out....
Ok thanks. I did move the start lever and the revs got faster and back to 4k when I pulled it back. It was driving cleanly at 4000 as if I had throttle open. Service time soon anyway.
same on my 749s about one year ago, a cold day, doing about 80 ish on dual carriageway so no real prob, didnt last for long and never returned
