999 V-batt what is your VOLT reading

Discussion in '749 / 999' started by Phill, Sep 8, 2013.

  1. just wondering if mine is frying my battery
    typically irrespective of journey time.
10 minutes or 4 hours it stays flashing approximately

    15.4 Volts

what is yours and what should it be..
I seem to think it should be about ~13.4volts +/- .x volt

    also where is it located

    thanks :)

  2. Mine reads 13.7- 13.9, never seen it flash.
Just added the - to earth lead mod, before that 13.5- 13.7.
I think up to low 14 is ok, maybe 14.3 max.

Anything on the dash that flashes on off is a warning. Temp does that at about 120.

  3. thanks gonna order a new rectifier incase it frazzles the ECU

  4. Try Jim at Bikenders 01708 455530 he sells s/h vgc cheap. He's on ebay.

  5. defo over charging, new reg required.

  6. I havent bothered looking yet.
but for ease and speed when the new one arrives.
    where is it located ?
    hows best access ?

been busy and havent had a chance to fanny on with it..

  7. Left hand side of the battery box. You'll see it poking out. You need to take the battery box off and remove the heatshield on the back to get at the connectors.

  8. Dumpy small Phillips driver to remove heatshield. Crap design.

  9. Never ever seen 15v. Or had it flash.

  10. I was gonna go out for a ride today but decided against it incase it burns ecu out.

have come across one or two on web that have - new ecu needed

and also have a lithium battery on that cost a bomb and dont want to shag it

  11. My 999 often tells me it's about 15V and starts flashing, complete nonsense. If you put a voltmeter on your battery you will find it is actually charging at about 14.4V. I stipped all the elecrics down and cleaned it and it showed 14.4V for some time, poor connections. Don't run out and buy a new recitifier, if you have a voltmeter check your charging voltage first, if it's 14.4V, your rectifier is fine.

  13. Theres us trusting Ducati electrics. yes perhaps the onboard volt meters out of sync, never thought to check mine.

  14. gonna replace it anyway

  15. I would also check what it is actually charging at with a meter as they often are ok but the ECU shows it is overcharging

  16. Lucky you've got the chance to change it - my old 749s started reading those sort of numbers and flashing while 100 miles away from home. Error messages all the way back, and the ECU died shortly after
