I've no idea, but is it possible that it's from the rockers? were they still prone to flaking like early 9xx models
2020 v2 Pani. 4000 miles. For comparison. Bike continued to run faultlessly on track. That was pre track activities.
Yeah, I’m thinking it’s just gearbox shards but what’s at the back of my head is some of the early Multi 1200s have a bit of a reputation for eating crankshafts

Actually, when it comes to matters Ducati related the advice and opinions on here are mostly well worth it.
No quickshifter, but he does also have a BMW S1000RR and the thought did go through my head that when he hops on the Multi he forgets it doesn’t have a QS. I’ll ask him whether he does clutchless changes.
Sometimes when you miss a gear and are in too much of a hurry to get it back in gear, it can make a loud and disturbing noise
Could it be historical debris finding it's way out from a previous issue that's been fixed? Assuming it wasn't you who previously fixed it and didn't clear it out properly!
Could be worth getting a small clean container and filling it with kerosene or petrol and giving the plug a good swirl in it to clean the oil off the debris, and unless you have a SEM with EDS in your shed, then remove the debris and place it on some clean white paper and post some images up (magnified if possible, with the edge of a ruler for scale). Someone familiar with morphology may be able to give you a better idea as to the type of debris (build swarf, brg material, gearbox bits, etc) it is. Also, did you remove the course strainer and if so did that have any debris, magnetic or otherwise, if so might be worth also washing in kerosene or petrol, and straining through some filter paper (kitchen roll) for a similar review.

Yes, but something has to go out of order first for them to start oscillating and then snap. However, one would expect the con rod big ends to take some grief first and there’s no sign of bearing shells in the oil. I do think it’s just a bad example of gearbox wear.
This is the first time I’ve worked on the bike. Previously it was allegedly serviced by the dealer (non Ducati) who sold it to the present owner. Looking at the service receipts it’s been around the houses a bit, all of them generalists more used to working on Jap IL4s and quite a few other areas lead me to believe their ‘services’ were limited strictly to an oil change. Maybe they noticed it too but, as they’re all dealers, under the fish to get things turned over quickly, they couldn’t be asked to question it or look for reasons why, probably just thought ‘see, shit Italian stuff, I told him he should have bought a Suzuki/Honda/Yamaha’
