A Suggestion For The Moderator

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by indiecourier, Feb 19, 2016.

  1. I've been very impressed with the various "How To" and general tweaking suggestions that pop up on this forum, not necesseraly under there own thread (eg the starter motor repaired in place but appearing in the Ride Height Lock Nut thread).

Trouble is that it may be ages before one needs to follow these up and entirely posible that one has forgotten them or not ever read them before.

So how about making a "sticky" at the top of the page that any usefull thread could be entered into, perhaps even be retitled to make them earier to spot?

  2. If I understand you correctly then you'd have the same problem. You'd then have to root through the "sticky" to find what you want.

    Or am I missing something?

Ps Thread moved to the correct forum ;)

  3. the 'sticky' option has been brought up several times and it's clear that it's obviously not going to happen on this Forum, but brave of you to bring it up (again) @indiecourier. I can't see why it's not been considered, works well on other Forums - it's simply a list of the most relevant (e.g. the things that regularly go wrong) threads that are relevant to a particular model of bike - any posting of 'dross' is discouraged or then deleted (you would enjoy this E.T.) Yes it initially makes more work for moderators but overall saves time for someone with a (known) problem and stops us all typing the same thing out over and over. The 'similar topic' threads now included at the end of a thread are better than nothing but no replacement for the real thing.

  4. A search function that worked would be good :)

  5. On some forums they have "How to.." sections. Useful reference threads are left in their original location but then copied into a technical "How to.." archive under model specific headings for easy reference. These threads build up over time and can be very useful.

  6. wot you mean like a 'sticky'?.. (I don't like the name either but found it easier to 'go with the flow')

  7. No, like a library, all in order and lovely and neat - nothing like a sticky. You would end up with hundreds of sticky thinks to sort through as Hell T said already :smileys:

  8. OK, how about a section for @Cream_Revenge 's threads - he has asked every question known to man so there would be your library with all the answers to his posts? :D

  9. definitely got that wrong - I accept that the 'sticky' post idea is disorganised*, but I wasn't implying a 'rigid formula' just trying to get the ball rolling. *Apart from this the principle is identical :Finger:

  11. I am guilty of drifting that thread into a starter motor subject, I didn't intend to. some things are best searched for on the web with google, that particular subject and many more 848 and ST2 issues are on my blog, as they are also on other forums around the world. IMHO It would cause more work for any moderator to have to try to index them all on one forum, for very little gain.
I like the layout of this forum as it is and find it one of the friendliest bike forums on the web
