There are many like it, but this one is mine. It has lived outside pretty much all of its life. I have used it to secure various bikes at home, at work, around town and city centres, in many airport bike-parks. It has been attacked many times by would-be thieves, smashing the case and putting a kink in the shackle early in it’s life. Fortunately no angle grinder attacks. One bike, a KDX125 was stolen under its watch, after multiple attempts by the local thieving little darlings. In the end they part-dismantled the bike, and left the wheel, still attached to the ground anchor by the lock. Occasionally I give the lock mech a squirt of brake cleaner and then ACF50 to keep it working smoothly. It is now in semi-retirement looking after the front drive gate security every night. It now looks pretty battered, but continues to do it’s job and work effortlessly with either key. So what? Well, I just realised how long it has been. I bought this lock when I started work, to ensure my bike was still there to get there / get home. At the beginning of the month the company reminded me that I have worked with them for 40 years. At today’s price, than means it has cost me 1p per day. Good lock. Thank you Abus.
I owned an ABUS bike lock for a mountain bike, we used to leave our locks around the railings at the local pub we finished our bike rides at.. The landlord got fed up of having the locks there so decided to cut them all off... mine was the only one they couldn't remove, to the point where they had tried to smash it with mallets leaving imprints in the brickwork and resulting in not being able to put the key in the lock to remove it.. It's still there now some 7 years later.. After letting said landlord know what we thought of his attempt at customer relations I haven't stepped foot in his pub since. Full marks to ABUS locks
I've two x Abus Granit padlocks, they're over thirty years old now, one's a little snatchy with the key as the key has'd it's better days with no spares ever cut.
Ive got the Hb 58 can't remember when I bought it but it was a long time ago and still working perfectly
You would of thought so wouldn't you?.. we would be there pretty much every Wednesday evening around 12-15 riders.. He even denied it was him at first, until I showed him the remains of my poor lock.
Just a question - did you ever ask the landlord if you could leave them there before the event? Obviously not condoning their actions but just offering the other person’s perspective. Also have a years old Abus Granit U lock (1990) which still works perfectly.
To be fair and in all honesty No we didn't ask to leave our locks there ... they had been there around the the railings for 2 or 3 years so it wasnt a sudden occurance.. to give some context we were sponsored by the pub, held meetings there, spent lots of drunken weekends, evenings etc.. biking was a big part of the pub community. The landlord did do some strange things and has upset many people who won't now drink in there, it's not just me.
