Adventure Style Crash Helmets

Discussion in 'Clothing, Gadgets & Equipment' started by Kevin Tallant, Apr 14, 2024.

  1. I was trundling along the M25 yesterday, nodding poliety to other motorcyclists and it struck me nearly everybody has BIG adventure style bikes these days. I'm pretty certain most of those 260kg + beasts never go any more off road than gravel car park of local transport cafe or pub. Is there any advantage in the Cyril Esquirol style lids they all wear ? I'd of thought at higher speeds it would cause neck pain due to lift ?
    Or is it just fashion?
Probably just me as never really embraced the power ranger look in sports bikes either.

  2. If you ride an 'upright' bike like an MTS/GS/etc. benefits include shades the eyes in sun, the wider opening means less of a head dip to see clocks, and generally better all round visibility. Plus you get to look like a Power Ranger (top benefit!) so what's not to like...?! :joy:

  6. Maybe Edi Orioli would have been better person to pick?

  8. I’m a little confused, are the riders 260kg+ beasts or the bikes? Having been out today I’m fairly certain you mean the riders.
    TIA

  9. Better visibility, and the peak is great when riding towards the sun. But they’re crap at triple digit speeds so useless for everyone on here!

  10. That's kinda of my thoughts. Lots of these sit up and beg bikes are 150bhp + and if your on a longhaul it's nice to sit at a decent speed (where law allows ;-)). Imagine screens stop a lot.

  11. My understanding is the real reason for peak on the helmet is to keep dirt off the riders visor/goggles and not to keep the sun out of your eyes.
