Morning everyone Ok, so I've been on track for a few years now with reasonable spec NC30. There's still more I'd like to do it but I really fancy building/modifying a 900ss or similar. I've just to finished restoring my 916 but it's too nice for the track. I'm after a bit of advice to give me food for thought. I have attempted to build a track bike before but rather than buy a base I started with a load of spares and it was proving very costly, so I sold up. I'd love to build a X60R one day like most of us but right now that's out of reach. This is my rough plan of attack but I would appreciate as much advise as possible. 900ss as donor Strip back to frame and engine. Keep the 900ss engine for now Remove anything not needed for track Total loss ignition 1198 forks and brakes Nitron rear shock Upgraded rims Custom exhaust Smaller tank 748/916 nose cone and tail or x60r style bodywork. Slicks Which other 2v engines will fit in the 900ss frame? Is there any other donor bikes I should consider? Would appreciate all your comments especially from the desmodue chaps. Thanks Haydn
Iirc any of the 2v engines will fit. A 1000DS lump or a 1100 from a hyper or a monster would be a great torquey choice for a track bike. Or you could take a 900 and monkey around with a long stroke crank and bigger pistons for a custom option. If watercooling isn't a problem then a ST2/4 make a great starting point too. They are cheap to buy and share a lot of common components with other models. The 2v 944 and 4v 916 lumps are great motors too, especially once you lose some weight from the bike. I've fitted 1098 forks to my ST4 project, you need to shim the bottom yoke with some 1/2mm aly sheet and machine the top yoke out (or go the whole hog and have a custom top yoke made). Good luck with the project, don't forget that we love pics
Feel free to PM - can chat all day about racing big engined SS frames - Only 4 in the unit at the moment.
