For Sale Advice Please

  1. I think I already know the answer to my dilemma, but other options always help.

My 996 is on eBay, I had an offer from a chap on Friday night, I accepted. I heard nothing by Saturday lunchtime so assumed he'd probably had a shandy the night before and made the offer while his judgement was impaired, we've all done it, I have a 6x4' poster of Kate Beckinsale in shed.
He replied after a few hours saying, that for the price he had offered he hoped I would delivery it to him, he lives in Letchworth, a 100 miles away, and he'd pay cash when I got there. I said I would for £1/mile but I wanted a bank transfer for the full amount before I set off. Said he can't collect as can't ride at the moment.
He says he can't do a bank transfer as needs to pay cash, he is 100% genuine!! he says.
I've looked on his eBay, seems to have sold lots of all sorts, but not much lately, the most recent get rich quick seems to be 45 gallon oil drums, with the top cut and some holes cut in the side to make an incinerator (they do work well, have done them at work), all seems a bit pikey.

So several alarm bells I think, or should I have more faith in people?

  2. Walk away.

  3. As annoying as it is, probs best to walk away. Complete chancer ‘assuming’ delivery is included, that’s ridiculous.

He could surely do £100 bank transfer to cover delivery if he really was genuine?

  4. Get his delivery address see if he lives there check it out….see if he wants to Give you an address or wants to meet at Mcds etc

  5. He's given me a full address, but doesn't mean he lives there, wouldn't know how to check. I still might be greeted by him and his mates, that will encourage me leave the bike and no payment, hence asking for the full price paid in advance, I know he has to trust me to take the bike, but he's the one wanting it delivered.

  6. I would want payment upfront before I agreed to deliver. However, depending on how keen you are for the sale I would negotiate a bit on cost of delivery. Let him think he’s got a bit back from you.

  7. Walk away

  8. If your bank is anything like mine you will find trying to deposit wads of cash into an account difficult. Too many money-laundering checks these days.

  10. He could of course be genuine has he had ducatis before is he part of any forum or club…. Could just be an anti establishment anti world Luddite….. they are about, even on this forum:joy::joy::expressionless:

  11. A genuine buyer, who wants to buy, makes the effort to navigate the purchase. Not the other way round.

Ps: If the Kate Beckinsale poster is life sized I may be interested ;)

  16. So you will be miles from home with pockets full of cash . . . Hmmmm

  17. Where is he… it won’t take much for someone to know someone that knows him!

  18. He's in Letchworth, can't really put his full address on here, his name is Simon (no surname given) and www.mrniceguy99_4 on eBay. Not sure why I'm doubting him as he say he's a nice guy!

I've told him that unless he collects I'm cancelling the sale.
