Advice Wanted: Breaking 996 Chassis:

  1. Been pondering this for a few weeks: breaking my 996 chassis as the price of rebuilding the engine is way out of my budget , there is nothing on the engine that is not damaged. looked at the prices being asked on ebay for equivalent parts i would be selling. But prices seem very high, followed a few things but they don,t seem to sell so the questions are, is their a demand for 996 sps chassis parts and finally what is sensible price for the major components the parts are very good condition suspension parts would need a rebuild as its been of the road for 18 plus years

  2. Have you considered a replacement engine, instead of breaking? You may not find an actual SPS one, but perhaps something else - ST4, 999, 1098 perhaps - there are several here, that have beefier engines in 916-based chassis, who could advise you.

  3. I’d be looking to off load the whole lot or you’re in danger of storing unsold parts for another 18 years, have you no desire to source an engine.

  4. I broke an early Monster last year that I kept the engine from. I generally undercut ebay (dealer) asking prices by around 20% and was flexible on negotiations from there. Sold 80% of it at the first advert. All has now gone except a couple of small parts. Overall I got more than I had expected which gave me a cheap engine.

I had the hassle of breaking the bike and selling and parcelling up, which can be time consuming. Always a shame to break a bike, but if it's not that rare and keeps others going, it is not such a crime.

  6. can not face any more ducati mechanicals i love looking at them but the thought of pouring more money at the bike is a no goer
