Aerosol clear lacquer- compatibility question

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by CRYSTALJOHN, Apr 9, 2014.

  1. I have been spraying some fairing panels with a 'Holts' clear lacquer. I have just run out of the Holts aerosol and because of the difficulties of getting another identical aerosol ( I had to travel 60 miles round journey to get this one) I'm thinking of using another brand that I can source locally to me.

I'm wondering if there could possibly be a compatibility problem by spraying another brand on top of the Holts one?

I would be grateful for any advice.

  2. I don't know for sure but could you not do a bit underneath/out of the way to see if it reacts?

  3. Hycote would probably be OK...........slightly slower in hardening off though, but handling fingermarks will usually rub smooth........

BTW, I found that in cold weather, lacquer in rattle cans can be prone to bloom..................don't panic.....it will usually polish out.

  4. Keith I will spray inside the fairing panel with the last knockings of the Holts tin and then do a test on top with my new lacquer, which I think will be Hycote.
I have been taking advantage of the good weather the last couple of days, and have managed to get the panels and the aerosol warmed nicely in the sun.
