1299 After Having A 1299s, How Will I Find A Panigale Mk.2?

Discussion in 'Panigale' started by Dr.D, Sep 10, 2021.

  1. So I sold my 1299S in a moment of madness, and miss it. I am deliberating getting a panigale R Mk.2 instead, are they more of a handful of the road? I am very very tempted.... just cannot find any comparisons or reviews, so any feedback will be gratefully recieved. Thanks

  2. Go for it. Prices are dropping. Probably more mad and harder to ride than a 1299, same as any R over base.

  3. Cracking bikes the Panigale Rs. One day I shall own one. :)
I do know where there is a very pampered R for sale if you decide to get one, just let me know…:upyeah:

  4. A little bit of knowledge is useful in life but contacts are much better for opening locked doors.

  5. Cheers guys for all your advice, I will start looking I think.

  6. Not sure if @Expat Jack has had both, know he had a v4 and sold for the pani R

  7. ive ridden both and currently own a pani r, both are mental fast but the r spins up quicker, the r suspension is rock hard and will need adjusting , id go for the r every time, i just stare at it sometimes in the garage, thing of beuty.

I didnt find the r any harder to ride on the road. Just need to keep an eye on the speedo

  8. +1 on the suspension settings. Poor UK road surfaces to be avoided.

  9. I've not owned a 1299S but I changed my 1198SP for a Mk2 Panigale R, which is a great looking bike with a slightly less extreme riding position, which makes it easier to ride but still in a "sports" position. It definitely does not like going slow, and use in traffic can be uncomfortable especially from the heat coming off the exhaust and warming-up the rider. It's really a race bike with lights, and consequently works best when ridden fast, but stay aware and keep your eye on the speedometer.
The suspension is not ideal for UK road use, and I found that after having it adjusted, and the Sag set by an Ohlins specialist, it was noticeably better.
I've not done much mileage on this bike, but there have been a couple of recalls done without issues. I've changed the clutch slave cylinder, and the clutch can snatch sometimes until the bike warms-up, especially after having been unused for a while. I don't know if others have experienced this?
Mine came with an alternative screen, mirror blanks, two keys, the data logger, a full book pack, and a Lithium battery charger which will connect directly to the bike loom or to the battery through a normal charging lead. I don't have the charger connected all the time, but check the voltage using the battery function on the bike, and charge it when necessary. I have been told that some bikes also came with a cover and a rear stand, but I had to buy mine separately.
I have added protective covers for the clutch and alternator cases, and radiator guards. There is also partial paint protection fitted, but a full kit might be better.
Overall, its a work of art, and I don't think I'll ever tire of owning and looking at it.
    Hope things work out.
    Tom.

  10. Whats the difference between a Gen 1 and Gen 2, is the Gen 1 1199 motor ?

  11. the Gen 2 has a motor derived from the 1199 SL and the later 1299 styling and electronic package with IMU, but manual suspension adjustment- but im sure there are some other bits i missed etc
