Hi, Multi V4S Going on a 4 week euro tour soon and I have decided I'd like to go all belt and braces and get the plug and play alarm Ducati offer for the bike. (got BikeTrac tracker, alarmed disc-lock, alarmed lever lock and XC13 chain and padlock already!) I can get one cheap and delivered within a few days but cannot get the rubber mounting for it until after I leave, no stockist in UK that I can find. The question is, where is it mounted and can I make do with some rubber matting and HD cable ties. If its anything like my Supersport 937, which is just under the seat where the tool bag used to be?
I’m surprised you feel the need for an alarm as well with all that protection you have? I just have a tracker and basic disc lock. I’ve never had an issue as I try to pick hotels with a garage or secure parking. Unless you are in a major town in a rough area you should be fine. or are you going to a big bike event?
Yeah, not bothered with one up to now but the first 2 weeks I'll be soloing down to Croatia then meeting up in Italy with friends who are fly riding around the italian lakes/alps for a week then I'll take a week to get home solo. I'm sort of winging it each day on Booking.Com so the choices of hotels may be restricted.
If it's anything like the Ducati Performance one on the 1200/1260 DVT Multi then it can just be held in place, under the seat*, with 3M Dual lock. Mine's been that way since 2018 without issue. I do have the seat in the high position though. It's plugin and play as works as you'd expect. Whilst my BikeTrac tracker and Roadloc disk lock provide some security neither protect against people trying to pry open luggage, or have an immediate deterrent effect in the same way as an alarm. Yes, I accept that alarms tend to be ignored by everyone around it's still another thing for the tea-leaf to defeat. Belt and braces layered security that isn't too much hassle to set-up each time is my philosophy. *EDIT: Though for the V4 it looks like it's mounted inside the left fairing or under the tank panels. Fitting instructions. From these it looks like the alarm kit includes the rubber mounting and the cable that connects the alarm unit.
There is a specific location for it under the tank bodywork with easy access to the pre-wired connector. The available PDF on Ducati's product page for it (https://www.ducati.com/us/en/accessories/ACC012175) doesn't provide the installation instructions, but I know a previous version did because I was looking into it myself in the past. I bet you can find the Ducati PDF with the the installation out there still.
