Alternative magnetic sump plug

Discussion in '748 / 916 / 996 / 998' started by Haydn, Jan 25, 2014.

  1. Anybody using a hex head magnetic sump plug instead of the crappy OEM one. Avintia racing do one but its not magnetic as its aluminium.

    Cheers

  7. Looks good to Tim, I presume with the O ring and being Ali that you just nip it up rather than the standard torque figure to crush the washers.

  8. I used the normal torque but you'd probably get away with less. The magnet is stronger than the original part though.

  9. Did / does the magnet catch anything lately?

  10. A few years back I had a couple of valve seals work off the guide and get mashed by the rockers.

The little filter was full of bits of red rubber & the usual chrome (rockers) ... but some of the body of the seal was stuck to the magnet. :upyeah:

  11. That magnet is also glued in place!
If you want to avoid glued/resin magnets, look for ones that have been riveted in place like the oem magnets.

  12. The one that Tim put a link to clearly shows the magnet held in with a circlip.
