And Another 848 Question!

  1. Sorry but as an excited new owner im going to be asking lots of dumb questions. My new bike has only covered 640 miles and looking at the manual gentle riding is advised to 2-2500 kms? How do you advise it is ridden? Also the petrol in the tank appears creamy but it isnt its clear when you dip it, is the bottom of the tank creamy in colour on the 848 and others?

  2. 640 miles from new?Its not yet run in!Thats gentle riding for 2k miles then gradually increasing load/speed.As for your fuel, has that been in the tank 4 years?

  3. has it had new belts?

  4. No the fuel looks clear, bike runs fine Im just used to seeing metal at the bottom of the tank, its all new bike paranoia, its just had a service and fires up and runs fine so Im sure old fuel would have evaporated to gunk and caused issues. Im going to write to the owner as I bought from a dealer and find out what its full story is if hes willing to tell me. So Im stuck to below 7k for a good while?

Yes belts done Andy and old ones looked new...

  6. Smash its head in. After the 600 mile service just ride the arse off it. Poor thing has been sat doing nothing for 4 years and needs a bit of fist. I ran mine in til 600 and then just ride it normal and it was 100% reliable.

  7. Ha nice answer, Ill perhaps wait for the slime to clear of the roads but will indeed look forward to some spirited vibration! It is indeed a shame that its owner had too many toys and no time to use them, his loss my gain I guess.

  8. I have done all my bikes like this.
    First 600 miles under 6k
600-700 miles under 7k but with an occasional open up to 7.5k
700-800 miles under 8k but with an occasional open up to 8.5k
800-900 miles under 9k but with an occasional open up to 9.5k
I think you get my drift.
What I don't do is bang the throttle open to take it up the rev range.
Just roll the throttle on its got so much torque you will feel like its shifting anyway :)

  9. I'm used to screaming Japs but I will be gentle!

  10. Oh it wil never scream at you, just rumble around in your head with deep resonating sounds.
I get mine back on Saturday with full termi system :upyeah:

  11. I've not kept a bike more than 9 months, if it makes it past that, then it will get termis! Enjoy:upyeah:

  12. They Rev the nuts off them at the factory before they shipped. I really wouldn't worry.

  13. Don't bounce it off the rev limiter and don't sit at the same revs for ages. Other than those rules, just ride it....hard

  14. Except my old 2 strokes I never follow a running in procedure. Hell, my near impossible to replace 1037SPS was run in on the dyno! By a very well regarded engine builder too. 3 years on of just track use and it's still oil tight and sweet as the proverbial nut.

  15. I agree. It needs to be ridden. Maybe not 'smash its head in' just yet but it needs different revs and the box working to bed everything in and loosen the engine up a bit.

  16. Just make sure it's nice and warm before you give it the beans.
