Android And Apple

  1. I am all Android ATM.

Somebody who is all Apple was going to find out if books that they recommend, were available on Android, but I cracked first. And it does not hurt to broaden my education. I've ordered an Apple iPad Air and that is where my reading will be done. Anyway, Android is nothing great and if I get on with the iPad, I might get an iPhone.

  2. I have an iPhone, my mum has an android, I struggle with the android, the iPhone is very simple nut expensive.
I’m lucky because work provide my phone.

  3. iPhone barristers are and always have been utter shite.

  4. Imo you'd be better off (in both senses) with a Kindle if you're just wanting to read books electronically

  6. If you do get an iPhone the sizing was different - to the Samsung phones anyway. So I went for the smaller iPhone 16 Pro and regretted it. I traded it in after about 1 month and got the larger 16 Pro Max. Also got the higher storage version, can take pictures and videos to your heart's content. Thumping great big battery in it as well.

Put a screen protector on it and a basic clear silicon case - sorted.

*One thing I did notice is the image editing on the Samsung S series was better - in particular the removing unwanted objects from a picture. The iPhone does not do that as cleanly.

But even so I much rather have my iPhone and plan to keep it for a a goof few years.

  7. The cheapest I phone costs 7 times more than my Android. Are they 7 times better? I think not.

  8. Maybe- maybe not.

The real plus in having an iphone is when you have other Apple products as they all link seamlessly.

  9. I don't have any apple products at all. I find Android also links to anything I want to link to. My daughter was bought an iPhone and watch by her grandfather this year. I began to understand the cost of the products. It was a 2 hour process which took 1 staff full time and another part of it. I counted 25 staff in that shop with probably more in the storage area out back. They offered to set it all up as well with data transfer from android which would have been another 2 hours with a "genius". The service is thorough but boy do you pay for it.
I stick to my cheap Android as I can't see anything that is of interest to me that is that much better, or better at all.
Having tried her phone, I actually find the OS confusing and cumbersome.

  10. I don't disagree with much of your post.

But Apple watch and 'phone is not immediately comparable to anything else available from Android suppliers.
Apple Carplay is totally unavailable without iphone.
Apple music and importantly your own library is not available to you on all your devices without ios.

So it just depends on what you want...

  11. I'm an apple fan it's the only phone I can easily use and when I'm stuck the kids sort it for me ;D
Seriously though my garmin was easy to set up and my fit bit and air pods just sync up

  12. I'm rather glad / pleased / relieved that you've corrected that, as up until then, I was beginning to think otherwise...........:joy:

  13. I am supposed to have an iPad coming today. I will see how I get on.

The plan was to then try an iPhone, if I get on well with the iPaaddy, but the flipping expense of the iPhone puts me off. Last time that I looked, for the one with the big screen (Max?) it was around a £1000! That is just a clear rip-off!

  14. iPhones just work out of the box.
And when it comes to a new one, it works pretty much the same as the old one.

  15. Android Auto is totally unavailable without an Android phone :D

Have always avoided Apple, my daughters and my partner are all fully invested though. Apple sort of forces you to commit to their full ecosystem for absolute integration, can't bear that business model. I know that Android also do this but to a lesser extent. Cameras tend to be better on version comparable Samsungs vs iPhones and are quite a bit cheaper.

  18. True, but no one who has used both wants to see Android Auto ever again...

Re the cameras I'm not really a photo buff so I don't know the numbers. I can tell you that in imo, the pics on both systems are great and have been since 2010. I doubt very much that many -if any- people could discern the difference between 2 pics taken on on smartphone or another. We are being sold a myth of better cameras, when the ones we have are already far more than we really need or appreciate.

There is no disputing the price differences though. Apple devices certainly seem to always cost more. I'd also say that Apple batteries don't seem to last that well either. My old Sony lasted longer 6 years ago than my iphone. But the truth is I've never run out of power as i'm mostly in a building or vehicle where there's loads of it!

  19. True, but the interface on a Macbook, ipad and iphone are not all identical which you would think/ expect them to be...

  20. There are plenty of You Tube vids to watch and learn how it all works.

Another aspect of the difference is that - in my opinion anyway - Apple makes stuff, phones, computers and all. Whereas Android is an operating system that is Google - collecting data as part of Google - or am I mistaken about that ?
