In the many years of 2V ownership, I've come across a few comments regarding the ideal muffler length for 2V ducatis -- mainly that the aircooled bikes tend to run "better" with a longer muffler. During the build of my scrambler trackbike project, I've managed to acquire 3 lengths of mufflers: From the top, a GPR aftermarket item I just got (brand new-ish, with just a few imperfections from storage). It fits onto the hight mount link pipes that I currently have. The middle is a Bimota DB4 muffler I gutted and re-packed with exhaust matting, cut down to approximately 12" in length. This is the muffler I've been using on static bench running. The bottom is a lextek muffler (I got the pair for a price too good to pass up). It's a clamp on size; the inlet needs to be expanded slightly to properly fit on the link pipes. Here's a pic of the Bimota home-modified muffler: And the new to me GPR: As you can imagine, these would be the quietest of the bunch, but there aren't any noise restrictions at my local track. The lextek ones would be the lightest and might make my ears bleed, but if there isn't any performance advantage I think I'd use them on something else. the length is a bit odd-looking with the short tail, but form follows function doncha know! Of course, running FCRs on short stacks without an airbox also throws a huge monkey wrench into the mix! Thoughts/experience/irrefutable proof from anyone?
