Made the Step yesterday from the jap to the Italian side, picked up my panigale s yesterday and although running it in love it already, was told mine was the latest revision with all the call backs done and a new hole in the fairing to see the oil glass, apparently on the first ones this could prove a challenge, Any way to my question, I'm told they are quite oil thirsty and was wondering what manufacture of oil people advise, I now the grade but is there one particular manufacture that is more recommended and long lasting as been told if its crap oil you could end up using allot more and spend more time checking the oil than riding. Any comments or experiences would be great
I'd get it run in first before going to a full on premium oil. The oil in there at the moment will be Shell. While that's a good oil, at first service and thereafter I'm using only Motul 300V in my customers bikes. For me, it's the best oil available and with such a high output, short stroke motor, it deserves only the best. The bikes I've seen have been thirsty up to around the 1200 mile mark, but then doesn't seem to be any worse than other bikes. Just keep an eye on the level. It's heaviest up to the first 600 mile service and it's at that point where I fill with 300V. The motor does need running in and to be fair, it's going to use oil whatevers in it. The key is to run it in as per instructed.
Thanks Nelly, yes going through the rig moral of running it in is going to be a ball ache but it's all worth it in the long run, will make sure I get some Motul in the garage for after it's first service, Need to go and get some shell oil today as put 100 odd miles on yesterday so need to get some of that in the garage. Thanks for the advise.
