I have decided to upgrade my new lathe with some SKF precision bearings as I cannot get rid of the -15" thou run-out from the headstock spindle. The front bearing is pressed on the spindle so need a press to remove/re-fit new bearings. Shaft diameter is 45 by 300mm long.?
Pics of the new lathe please Peter. Didn't realize that a 'young un' like yourself was bi-lingual with measurements!
Peter are you anywhere near to Molesey ???? if so give Stuart Gurr aka HOME - vmaxscart he is a good mate of mine ( mention Martin Boult ) he has a Mill, Lathe, Tig/Mig welding, does fabrication etc a very clever lad, he made his daughter a 1/4 scale Ferrari Home - scarletts garage his contact is 07736063945
Satz, thank you for his number. I now will bombard him with texts pleading for him to adopt me. His work really merits the word - awesome. Truly. I'd love a lathe. A nice Myford Super 7. Oh and a mill...i'd never leave the garage.
I saw that little Ferrari at McLaren last year, it really is a stunning bit of work. I spent ages just looking at the detail.
He's recently sold it at Auction as his daughter has outgrown it, I've known him since we were 5 he will rather make something than buy it, forgot to say he also has a rolling road, and builds and maps ecu's he did say that he was at Mclaren with the car and its a shame that Ron Dennis didn't snap him up,
Picture as promised John. I have already spent some 20 hours stripping and cleaning and adjusting it so that I might start using it soon, that is after I have made new gib strips, new bearings and some simple modifications.
Ti, good luck with that! Bet that'll be a fecker to machine. I may be after some disc spacers....ahem.........in aluminium....once i source my calipers and have a final offset measurement. Of course materials and CAD drawing shall be provided along with cash. Should you be up for it. However this is some time later on this year, unless i find calipers quickly and cheaply. I presume you have one of these. Cheap on eBay and a must have.
