999 Anyone Know These 999r’s

Discussion in '749 / 999' started by colin72blue, Sep 28, 2019.

  1. As per the title anyone know anything about the 2 low mileage 999R’s at the bike specialist in Sheffield?

    Considering getting one

  2. @Exige is your 999r man.
Sheffield commands super high prices, and he's the middleman for the seller hence his prices as he needs to take his markup on them.

  3. Welcome to the forum btw :):upyeah:

  4. Thanks

Didn't think his 999r prices were too bad compared with the few for sale elsewhere?

Nearly bought one at start of the year at a dealer in the lake district at similar money. Also know of a private one for sale at a similar price but with about 8k miles and hasn't been used for about 8 years so needs a full recommission!

  5. Ducati 999R 999cc LOW Mileage Example with Termignoni Exhaust
    £16,980
Our example is fitted with the full Termignoni exhaust system as well as being supplied with the original system too.

This one looks like a 2004 bike - it doesn't have a Full termi System on it. Check under the carbon frame protectors for damage...
Do all your normal checks - but have the fairings removed to inspect for signs of damage as always.

  6. A full recommission is a service at the end of the day if stored correctly...

  7. Up in Scotland next weekend so planning on popping in there on the way back on the Monday to have a look. Also considering a 749R, 1198SP and a few non ducati bikes

  8. So i popped in there on Monday for a look. Only really looked at the lower mileage one. Had the fairing off and had a good look and nothing really jumped out at me as a concern. Didn't take the carbon frame protectors off but again nothing to suggest they were covering anything? The exposed parts of the frame had little white marks above the bolts. Is this a factory mark to show it has been tightened? Didnt check the spare parts that come with it but they stated it was a termi full system and came with original

All in all it looked lovely

However i have been distracted by an immaculate 1198SP!

Never ridden either of these or any ducati for that matter so any tips hugely appreciated.

  9. 1198sp will be a massively better bike: more power, torque off the scale, fairly adjustable chassis.
The R will be better investment, probably better on the road, and has iirc a far more adjustable chassis. Plus, it’s an R. And it won’t have a gearbox that will explode after 6k Miles ;)

  10. They now mark them with yellow paint to show they've been done.

Get a test ride. A ducati sportsbike (and I'm talking pre-Panigale) is way more extreme in riding position than a JIL4 and it'll take a bit of getting used to.

  11. Have there been many exploded boxes? Stumbled across a couple of threads on that yesterday. This bike is low mileage and had a very easy life by all accounts and it will be road use for me only for Sunday thrills!

  12. Cant find anyone that will do test rides on these particular bikes.

  13. IME and those I’ve ridden with. Pre-panigale Ducati’s aren’t keen on quickshifters. SP came as standard, and everyone I know personally (maybe a handful) have had gearboxes replaced at some point, thankfully normally under warranty. Even my 848’s got very notch and probably would have gone if I’d have kept them.

but there are probably loads of 1*98 variants out there with decent mileage and standard, original boxes :)

  14. Get a sexy BSD gearbox...

  15. So the full system is in a box with the original on the bike? Sounds strange

  16. Will maybe get them to measure both.

Is the fila R basically the same as the 04R? Also found a nice one of them for sale

  17. 05 & 06 999Rs have different engine specs and put out a claimed 15hp more. Different cams, Ti valves, guides and valve seats

  18. Correct. If you're set on a 999R get the end of line 05 or 06 model. Most desirable out the range. As well as the above they reshaped the bodywork for the better too :):upyeah: I owned one. Beautiful bike....
