Anyone using the 999 Laptimer?

Discussion in '749 / 999' started by JimDane, Feb 17, 2013.

  1. I can't seem to find much information about the built-in laptimer on the 999, has anyone been using it on trackdays with success?

I know you can get an IR eye for it but is it usable for trackdays? I will need to be able to store about 150 laps for one day and I really want the option to get data out of it and into something useful (like Excel).

I already have an IR based laptimer but it takes up space and I would rather avoid the ugly box if possible.

    tnx

  2. Nope I am probably too ham fisted or hanging on for dear life to use it. There are quite a few Apps availoable for the iphone from basic to advanced which may be easier.

  3. Using the IR beacon device is not recommended for trackdays in the uk - a trackday is a not a timing day and you could end up being kicked off if found to be using it. Thats why people use the button to trigger it or get a GPS laptimer, something like a starlane.

  4. 150 laps in a day? What track is it, Hornby?!

As above, they find, you're off. If its like the 848 you can trigger off the pass light, its just remembering.

  5. Plenty of apps available

  6. The 999 stores only 19 laps and has no way to download them.

  7. I'm in Denmark, noone gets kicked off for using a laptimer here. I'm doing a lot of trackdays on Knutstorp which is only 2000 m long (but sill great and challenging) and you do a fair number of laps during one day.

I need something automatic too, I can't even find the time to look at it while driving. Actually if I do anything else than being completely focused I'm off the track!

I will start with my present Laptimer (Rollcentre T200, from UK) it works fine and stores 200 laps. I didn't even buy the IR beacon, someone always puts one up.
