This year so far has seen extraordinary, unprecedented developments daily, and the world turned upside down weekly. On top of that we are afflicted with fake news, lies, panics, and frauds more than ever before. No-one knows what might happen next, and it is hard to know what reports to believe. Against this background, the last thing we need is a spate of wind-ups and "jokes" on 1st April. Let's just give the April Fools thing a rest this year, can we. It's just not funny any more.
Without humour though; even in the face of terrible circumstances, the world would be a colder place. It is a way of coping. But I understand the sentiment. Humour and being nasty or cruel are not the same thing.
