I have to start downsizing my hoard of 748R and 748RS bits but am unsure if something like the 748RS barrels and high compression pistons would fit any other 748 model except perhaps the 748R which I guess should be identical (shouldn’t it ?). Is there a knowledgeable soul out there who can give me a steer in the right direction ? TIA, Andy
Andy, to start off with have you done part number cross references to see what is common to the bikes? If you need 748R parts lists for MY01 and MY02 bikes I can email them.
I have new old stock 748rs pistons and barrels here andy they were identical to my to my 02r ones. I believe the R pistons are unique to the R something todo with the wrist pins iirc
Just had a reply from the workshop and definitely only compatible with the 748R head. They also added a caution to ensure the correct thickness base gasket is used to give the correct squish and valve clearance at high revs. It couldn’t be simple, could it ? Andy

There’s some useful insight in the Sigma articles actually. About what parts fit and what parts don’t but I’m sure others have said definitely no to high comp pistons in the standard deck without special gaskets. I believe the rs cams are even more extreme than the R ones and hence even lower service life.
